What is positive reinforcement

Positive reinforcement training refers to dog training that does not use force, pain, intimidation or coercion. A fundamental belief in positive reinforcement is that pain and physical confrontation is inhumane, unsafe and ineffective.
 
This movement is gaining momentum in the United States, thanks to renowned animal behaviorists like Jean Donaldson and Dr. Ian Dunbar, as well as veterinarians and veterinary behaviorists that specialize in behavior problems.
 
Positive reinforcement training is based on animal learning science and evidence-based practice. Thanks to research and advocacy on behalf of animal welfare, advances in the science of animal learning are continually evolving.
